Biography

Born in Siirt (1979), Hasan Hüseyin Güneş completed primary and secondary education in Batman and studied Arabic, fiqh, tafsir and hadith in the classical method. He moved to Ankara in 1998 and spent 1999-2000 in Iran studying Persian and Shi'i culture. He enrolled at Kırıkkale University, Department of History in 2001, graduating in 2005, and completed his MA in 2008 with a thesis on Caliph al-Ma'mun and His Era (803-833). Admitted to the PhD program at Ankara University the same year, he was appointed research assistant at Afyon Kocatepe University in 2010 and received his PhD in 2014 with a dissertation on the Magharibah Quarter and Community in 16th-Century Jerusalem. He joined Bartın University in 2015, became associate professor in 2019 and full professor in 2026, and was a visiting scholar at Harvard University's Center for Middle Eastern Studies (2023-2024) with a TÜBİTAK 2219 project on Ottoman Rafidi Narratives.
